Beyond golf

Wittenbeck and surrounding area

Golf isn’t everything. Maybe you've come with family members who have other interests. Or maybe you yourself would like to discover the countless possibilities in the unique region around Wittenbeck and the wonderful Baltic seaside resort Kühlungsborn. Here is your gateway to a world beyond tees and greens.

» Kühlungsborn
There’s a reason why Kühlungsborn is the largest and most popular seaside resort in the Bay of Mecklenburg. The six-kilometre long, white, sandy beach and smooth waters make for perfect bathing pleasure. Then enjoy an unspoilt view of the sea and the sky on one of Germany’s longest boardwalks.

» Heiligendamm
Since its foundation in the eighteenth century, Heiligendamm has always been considered to be one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in Germany. The collection of neo-classical lodges and bathhouses built between 1793 and 1870 still shape the city’s face today.

Riding

» Gut Vorder Bollhagen (Manor Vorder Bollhagen)
Right next to the riding track in Doberan is the Manor Bollhagen, home of a riding school and horse breeding stables. This is where you can put up your own horse and use the stables as a starting point for beautiful rides in the wonderful, hilly landscape.  To top off the offering, children can ride ponies and you are allowed to create your own tournaments.

» Ostsee Rennbahn (Baltic Sea Horse Racing Track)
Doberan's Ostsee Rennbahn is one of Germany’s oldest horse racing tracks that has drawn thousands of horse lovers from all over the world since 1823. After the iron curtain fell, the traditional facilities were quickly restored and given a set place in the German racing calendar. One of the sporting highlights is the Baltic Sea Prize in July.

Cities

The Hanseatic cities of Rostock and Wismar, like the state’s capital Schwerin, are always worth a visit because of the sights and their northern German charm. Many castles and palaces with magical gardens in the region attract visitors, as do many interesting exhibitions.

» Bad Doberan
Bad Doberan, home of many northern German brick Gothic buildings, is about nine kilometres away. The cathedral of Doberan (Doberaner Münster) is located directly in the historical centre of the city. It is part of the Cistercian monastery and considered to be one of the greatest works of this architectural period.

» Bäderbahn Molli (Coastal Railway Molli)
The coastal railway Molli went into service back in 1886. It still takes the route Bad Doberan - Heiligendamm - Kühlungsborn and is a popular means of transportation for tourists, just as it is an attraction for railway lovers.

» The Hanseatic City of Rostock
Rostock is about 25 km away. You can get to the Mecklenburg region’s largest city in 30 minutes on route B105. A beautiful, historical town centre and many beautiful shops await you. Day trips to Denmark and southern Sweden are possible from the ferry harbour.

» Warnemünde
The seaside resort Warnemünde is about 25 km away and it is easy to travel to by car in 30 minutes. This traditional seaside resort is one of the most popular places for excursions in the region. Particularly worthwhile sights are the romantic fishermen’s houses along the canal "Alter Strom" (old river). You can always expect cosy restaurants and, of course, long sandy beaches.

» The Hanseatic City of Wismar
The Hanseatic city, 45 km away from Wittenbeck, is considered to be one of the most beautiful port cities in the Mecklenburg region. You can get there in 50 minutes on route A20. UNESCO has put Wismar on its World Heritage list in 2002 because of the architectural landmarks in the old town.

» Capital of the State, Schwerin
Schwerin is the oldest city in the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and was the seat of the governing Dukes of Mecklenburg for centuries. Today, this town, 80 km away from Wittenbeck, is the smallest capital of a German state. The city's location between seven lakes is unique as is its little island with the castle on it - where state parliament rules. It's definitely worth a trip.
